Glaze Workshop: Understand and Control Your Glaze Results

Would you like to better understand why a glaze behaves the way it does? Do you wonder why colours change during firing, why glazes sometimes turn out differently than expected, or how you can gain more control over the final appearance of your ceramics?

In this in-depth workshop, Diana from Studio Keramiek will guide you through the fascinating world of ceramic glazes. You will learn how glazes are constructed, which raw materials and pigments are used, and how different firing temperatures and glaze compositions influence the final result.

The workshop combines theory with hands-on practice. You will explore a variety of glazes, create test tiles, and discover how to make more informed glaze choices for your own ceramic work.

What will you learn?

  • What a glaze is and how it works
  • The essential raw materials that make up a glaze
  • The differences between glazes, pigments and engobes
  • How firing temperature affects colour, texture and surface quality
  • How to analyse and improve your glaze results
  • How to create and interpret glaze test tiles
  • How different glazes can interact to create unique and unexpected effects

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is ideal for ceramic artists and makers who already have some experience with glazing and would like to deepen their understanding of the materials and processes involved. Even if you mainly use commercial glazes, this workshop will help you make more informed choices and gain greater control over your results.
